🏄♂️ Chase barrels at URBNSURF Melbourne – advanced surfer’s guide
Looking for the perfect inland barrel or a ramp to practise your airs? URBNSURF Melbourne’s advanced settings let you push your surfing without the unpredictability of the ocean. Here’s what to expect when you book an advanced session.
🌊 Barrel settings
Wavegarden’s Barrel waves deliver hollow sections with a critical take‑off. With up to 16 seconds of ride time, you can practise positioning, stall to set your line and get slotted. The wave height can be tuned up to around 1.6 m, so advanced surfers can enjoy solid tubes.
🚀 Performance waves
If you’d rather work on turns and airs, opt for the Turns or Airs settings. These waves have steep faces and predictable ramps, encouraging critical manoeuvres. Link snaps, cut‑backs and rotations without worrying about paddle battles.
💡 Session tips
- 🤸♂️ Warm up beforehand. Use the outdoor fitness area or do some dynamic stretching to avoid injury.
- 🏄♂️ Bring your shortboard or step‑up. Advanced sessions are high performance. Boards around your everyday shortboard length work best.
- 🤝 Respect etiquette. Even though the waves are machine‑made, it’s still one surfer per wave. Take turns and encourage fellow surfers.
