Your week has maybe three windows where surfing is realistic. Tuesday and Thursday after 5pm, and Saturday morning before family stuff kicks in. That’s it. The problem is that everyone else with a job has the same three windows, and those are exactly the sessions that are gone by the time you open the booking page.
If you can only surf in fixed hours, you don’t need more sessions to choose from. You need to hear about the right ones the moment they open up.
Why Evening and Weekend Sessions Go First
Wave pools have a lot of sessions on the schedule, but demand piles into a few of them. Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons often have space. Weekday evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings, and anything around a public holiday fill up fast, because that’s when people who work or study can actually go.
So the calendar can look busy and empty at the same time. Plenty of open spots at 11am on a Wednesday, nothing at 6pm.
Why Checking the Booking Page Doesn’t Work
Sold-out evening sessions don’t stay sold out. People cancel when work runs late, a kid gets sick, or the weather looks wrong. A spot comes back, sits there for a while, and gets taken by whoever happens to look next.
If you have a job, that’s rarely you. You can’t refresh a booking page during meetings, and by the time you check on your lunch break the spot that opened at 10am is gone. You end up concluding that evening sessions are impossible, when really they just needed someone watching.
That’s the job you hand off. Set an alert that only fires for sessions inside your hours, and let it do the watching.
How to Set an Alert for Your Days and Hours
It takes about two minutes, and it’s free.
- Go to the Surf Session Finder homepage.
- Select your pool.
- Click the big alert button at the top of the pool page. The wording changes a little by park, something like “Get free session alerts”.
- How many spots should be available: leave it on “Any number” if you’re surfing alone. Pick “2 or more” if you’re booking with a friend.
- Which sessions to track: choose your level. You can pick more than one if you’re happy surfing either.
- Preferred side: leave it on “Any side” unless you only want lefts or rights.
- Preferred days: open the list and tick only the days you can surf, for example Tuesday and Thursday. Your alert will ignore every other day.
- Preferred times: click “Select” and tick each hour you could start a session, for example 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00. Then click “Confirm”. Be realistic and leave time for the drive and getting changed.
- Alert timing: choose how long before the session you want the alert. If you need to plan around work, give yourself a day or two. If you live close and can leave on short notice, a shorter window catches more last-minute cancellations.
- Click “Test” to see which upcoming sessions match your settings. If nothing shows up, that’s normal for busy hours. It just means none are open right this minute.
- Click “Continue”, enter your email, click “Get Verification Code” and type in the code you receive.
- Tick “I want push notifications on this device” if you want alerts on your phone as well as email, then click “Activate Notifications”.
That’s it. You’ll only hear about sessions that fit your week, so you can stop checking sessions you could never make.
Tips for Actually Getting the Spot
Set a backup alert. Your main window is the competitive one. Add a second alert for a window that’s less popular but still possible for you: an early start before work, a long lunch, or a Sunday evening. You can run several alerts at the same park.
Keep the hours tight. It’s tempting to tick every hour from 16:00 to 21:00 just in case. If you can’t really make a 16:00 start, don’t tick it. An alert you have to ignore is one you’ll start ignoring.
Act when the alert lands. An opening in a popular slot doesn’t last long. If you know your calendar is free, book first and think about it later.
Consider an adjacent level. If you’re comfortable on two levels, track both. It roughly doubles your chances in the same hours. If you’re unsure whether you’re ready for the harder one, our guide on moving up a level can help.
Ask the schedule. If you’d rather check yourself on a free evening, the AI schedule assistant can show you matching sessions from the live schedule. Tell it your level, day and time.
Final Thought
Having a job doesn’t mean you can’t surf a wave pool regularly. You’re not short of sessions. You’re short of time to watch for the ones that fit. Hand that part off, and the evening slots stop looking impossible.
