Alaïa Bay Advanced Surf Sessions Explained
Alaïa Bay's upper wave levels — Advanced Cruiser through Mega Barrel — are where performance surfers spend their time. These sessions book out first and require the right skill sign-off. Here's what each offers and how to get in.
Advanced Session Breakdown
- Advanced Cruiser (1.4 m) – For out-the-back surfers. Versatile wave suits all board types. A strong step up from Intermediate Cruiser.
- Advanced Turn (1.6 m) – Fast, hollow takeoff. Designed for shortboarders who want to push their turns. High-demand slot.
- Expert Turn (1.7 m) – For surfers fully comfortable in bigger, powerful waves. Pro-style carving.
- Mega Turn (1.8 m) – Alaïa Bay's biggest turn wave. Maximum challenge for advanced surfers not yet going for barrels.
Barrel Sessions
- Expert Barrel (1.7 m) – Entry-level barrel. For surfers ready to pull into a tube for the first time at Alaïa Bay. Helmet required.
- Mega Barrel (1.7 m) – Heavy slab for confident barrel surfers. The most coveted session at the park. Helmet required.
Guided vs Free Surf for Advanced Surfers
- Guided sessions (from CHF 129) are led by surf guides and are open to intermediate-to-expert surfers who regularly surf in the ocean.
- Free Surf sessions (from CHF 89) are unsupervised and require prior validation as a regular Alaïa Bay surfer.
